Big Lunch gets Big Cheers

Topping Fold residents raised community spirits by taking part in the national Big Lunch at their local Community Centre and Library.

More than 100 locals took advantage of the good weather to enjoy an afternoon of food and entertainment.

The local Streetdancers group, who practise at Topping Fold, gave a performance; there was a tombola and bingo; and youngsters enjoyed meeting animals brought along from a local farm.

There was home baking by the Adult Learning Outreach group, burgers and hot dogs rustled up by members of the Tenants and Residents Association, and the local Police Community Support Officers also got involved.

Tesco, Warburtons, Greenhalgh's and Whitworth Brothers all donated items which helped make the event possible, plus funding from Six Town Housing.

Claire Bebbington, community development officer, said: “This was another fantastic fun day where the community pulled together. A massive “thanks” to everyone involved in making it such a success but especially to those who helped clear up afterwards!”
