Bury Market awarded coach-friendly status again

Bury Market has been accredited with coach-friendly status again by the Consortium of Passenger Transport (CPT).

It’s the latest national accolade for the town’s historic and multi-award-winning market, which dates back to the 1440s.

Bury Market welcomes more than 1,200 coach parties per year, with the busiest days bringing 30 arrivals from all over the UK.

Councillor Charlotte Morris, cabinet member for culture and the economy, said: “Gaining CPT's Coach Friendly accreditation all helps to support traders, small businesses and the wider town centre, while reducing congestion and continuing to promote social value. It’s yet more evidence of how well-loved Bury Market is, and the investment we are putting into the new flexi-hall and canopy replacements will ensure its popularity for many years to come.”

The award recognises the market’s high standards of facilities for visitors, coach drivers and group travel organisers such as driver lunch incentives, dedicated coach drop-off and free coach parking.

Graham Vidler, chief executive of CPT, said “After being named as one of our Top 10 Coach Destinations earlier this year, we’re delighted to re-award Bury Market Coach Friendly Status. The market always provides a warm welcome to coach groups and has great facilities for passengers and drivers – it’s no surprise the number of visitors keeps going up!”
