Press release -

Bury residents urged to register to vote

Thousands of Bury residents are being urged to register to vote by Bury Council.

Household Enquiry Forms have been delivered to every property in Bury asking residents to confirm or amend their details on the Electoral Register. It is a legal requirement to respond to the form, even if the details are unchanged.

In 2014 Individual Electoral Registration was introduced which made people responsible for ensuring their details were on the Electoral Register. So far 136,000 people in Bury have transferred onto the new system; however there are 8,000 people who have yet to register online or provide further information.

Mike Owen, electoral registration officer, said: “I urge all Bury residents to complete and return their registration forms. It only takes five minutes to make sure your details are correct and you’re registered to vote.”
