Bury’s sporting heroes strike again!

There were smiles all round on Friday (13 Sep) when Bury youngsters attended theNorth West Street Games festival at Trafford JJB soccer domes.

The teams participated in junior and senior competitions against squads from Stoke to Birmingham, Liverpool to Newcastle.

Team Bury took home the gold in boy’s table tennis, silver in mixed table tennis, gold in basketball and silver in street cheer.

The footballers, who had the toughest competition as there were more than 30 entries, did Bury proud by coming third in their group.

The teams comprised girls and boys who had either participated in Bury Council’s sport and physical activity service’s summer programme or Street Shakers dance and sports clubs who partnered up to provide team managers and volunteers.

Liz Norris, who attended the day on behalf of both services, said: “It is so exciting to see what talent we have here in Bury but even more pleasing to be able to offer this experience to the young people. We try to keep inspiring them to participate in sport following the Olympic legacy.”
