Events at Bury Library to mark National Poetry Day

Writers, readers and listeners are invited to Bury Library to celebrate National Poetry Day on Thursday 8 October.

The library will host two events on that day:

  • Poetry Writing Cafe (10-11.30am) - a friendly opportunity for new or experienced writers to start crafting a new work on this year’s theme of ‘Light’. Run by a workshop leader with the emphasis on gentle coaxing, this will be a chance to try something new in a supportive environment.

  • Poetry Readings from Irwell Writers, followed by an open-mic session (1-2.30pm) - join Bury’s foremost writing group as they share a selection of their poems. There is no pressure to take part, but budding writers are welcome to bring a contribution to share for the open-mic session.

Both events are free, but places on the writing workshop are limited and must be booked: email a.e.bond@bury.gov.uk or book at the library.
