Press release -

Free access to academic journals to continue at your library

The Access to Research initiative, which gives library users free access to more than ten million academic articles, has been given the green light by publishers and librarians to continue.

The service was launched as a pilot by the Universities and Science minister in 2014 to give more people access to publicly-funded research in the UK. More than 80% of UK councils, representing 2,600 libraries, have since signed up to the initiative.

Library visitors in Bury have used the service more than 800 times, one of the highest numbers per size of authority in the country.

To use the resource, call into your local library and go to the Access to Research web page: http://www.bury.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=11107
