History help needed for Great War exhibition

Bury Archives is appealing for memorabilia to help it mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War in 2014.

The service is putting together a special collection of items with a local connection to the war, from family letters and diaries to photographs and records.

Gillian Paxton, archivist, said: “We would love to have enough material to make a wonderful historic collection showing what it was like in Bury during the Great War. We would like to share your experiences with everybody by putting on a series of exhibitions and we want to produce some interesting publications but we need your help and your records!”

People can submit items by either donating on a permanent basis or as a long-term deposit. All items are stored appropriately to ensure their conservation and so they can be seen and enjoyed.

Gillian added: “Please send us your family’s experiences and stories, their documents and photos, so that we can keep them safe and let the world know about a vital part of Bury’s history.”

If you can help, contact the ArchivesService on o161 253 6782 or email archives@bury.gov.uk
