Press release -

Israeli poet Eran Hadas at the International Text Festival

The International Text Festival in Bury welcomes the first UK performance by leading Israeli experimental poet Eran Hadas.

Hadas is internationally recognised as the inventor of augmented poetry, a new style of writing that merges the traditions of poetry with the latest developments in computer code and internet
technology.

The Text Festival investigates contemporary language art incorporating poetry, text art, sound and media text, and live art. More than 60 international artists will participate in the event opening
on Friday 2 May when Bury’s new Sculpture Centre is officially launched. Eran
Hadas will perform on Sunday 4 May at The Met arts centre in Bury.

Based in Tel Aviv, Eran Hadas has five conventional books of poetry published in Hebrew and has gained a world-wide following through his use of new technology both to promote his writings and to generate entirely new forms of writing.

“As a software developer who writes poetry, I try to combine technology and verse all the time,” explains Hadas. His book, The Space Barwas chosen as “Book of the Year 2012/3” in Timeout Tel-Aviv Magazine and Yekum.org Magazine.

The poet’s work have been exhibited in Ars Electronica Festival (Austria), Orpheus Institute, (Belgium), Tel-Aviv Museum of Art, Jerusalem Science Museum, Art Museum of Bat-Yam, Israeli Center for Contemporary Art, Print Screen Festival Israel, Utopia Festival Tel-Aviv as well
as dozens of art galleries.

Tony Trehy, director of the Text Festival, said: “Eran Hadas is the most prominent poet in the Israeli internet poetry scene, and we are really excited to include him in the festival’s special celebration of artists working with new technology.”

Eran’s performance at the Text Festival is generously supported by Cultural Affairs, Embassy of Israel, London.
