Press release -

New facilities at refurbished Radcliffe Library

Work has started on a programme of refurbishment at Radcliffe Library which will bring new facilities to visitors.

There will be new décor, carpet and furniture, and - for the first time- public loos (the public have been using the staff toilets for years).

There will also be a kitchenette for community groups to make a cuppa: again, until now, they have had to use the staff room.

There will be more computers, including three with telephones which will allow visitors to conduct council business, such as paying bills and speaking to other council departments.

Local history facilities will be improved, with a display of items removed from the former civic hall such as the mayoral board.

Finally, some health and safety work will be done, particularly on the ceilings where the plaster is showing signs of cracking.

The work will take eight weeks to complete and the library will remain open during the majority of the work.

Councillor Sharon Briggs, cabinet member for communities, said: “This renovation work has been needed for a long time and will greatly improve library services for the people of Radcliffe. The improvements to this iconic building will also be an important phase of work contributing to the regeneration of Radcliffe town centre.”
