Opportunity knocks with our adult learning courses

An incredible 86% of adult learners in Bury go on to gain work or move into further education.

Each year, Bury Adult Learning Service supports learners to achieve their goals by offering a wide range of daytime and evening courses, including:

• English, Maths and ESOL
• IT and Digital Skills
• Employability Skills & Skills for Work
• Family Learning
• Wellbeing & Creative Courses
• Courses for Learners with Additional Needs

Courses are delivered from multiple locations across the borough, including the Bury Adult Learning Centre, libraries and various community venues.

Last year, the service supported 1,210 learners. Of those who completed their learning journey with the service, 86% declared they had either gone into further education or work.

Councillor Charlotte Morris said: “Our Adult Learning Service provides high‑quality and accessible learning opportunities that help residents gain new skills, improve their wellbeing, and progress into work or further education.

“We have a fantastic team who are committed to meeting the needs of individuals, communities and employers through inclusive and inspiring programmes.

“They also play a vital role in supporting learners with issues relating to employment, cost of living and health and wellbeing, ensuring that learning remains a positive experience in challenging times.”

The service has recently been inspected by Ofsted under their new grading framework.

The inspectors said that learners “feel a deep sense of community and belonging”, “appreciate that they are taught by dedicated and passionate staff, who motivate them to succeed,” and “build the essential knowledge and skills that they need to enable them to achieve their personal and/or career goals”.
