Please respond swiftly to the Electoral Canvass

Bury Council is urging local residents to respond to the 2013 Electoral Canvass as soon as possible to avoid the need for costly reminders.

Voter registration forms are being delivered to all 83,000 households in Bury. The canvass gives the council an accurate record of who is registered to vote.

People are being asked to check the forms to make sure the details on them are correct. If their details are unchanged, people can simply respond online, by telephone or by text. If changes need to be made, then the details need to be posted back.

The Electoral Canvass gives the council an accurate record of who is registered to vote.

Mike Kelly, the council’s chief executive and electoral registration officer, said: “We know there will be local and European elections in 2014, which will have a direct impact on people’s lives in Bury. As we have seen from previous elections, every vote counts, so it is important that everyone who is eligible to vote is registered to vote. Households should look out for the registration form coming through their door; it’s now easier than ever to register, so there’s no excuse for not doing so.”

* Local Democracy Week is held from 14 to 18 October, and the council has set up a Facebook page and Twitter account – follow at https://twitter.com/BuryDemocracy and https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bury-Local-Democracy-Week/1407736919446042
