Press release -
Ramsbottom man given three-year ASBO
A Ramsbottom man has been given a three-year ASBO after receiving repeated warnings about his anti-social behaviour.
Bury Magistrates Court granted the ASBO on 1 July against Paul Platt after being presented with evidence of him being verbally aggressive towards shop assistants and health workers, acting in an intimidating and threatening manner while using public transport and towards members of the public.
Platt (aged 28) of Hillside Road had received several warnings about his behaviour from Bury Council’s ASB team and the police, and had repeatedly breached an Acceptable Behaviour Contract which he had signed.
During the period of the ASBO, Platt must not:
· Consume alcohol or be intoxicated in a public place
· Shout or use foul and abusive language in a public place
· Use threatening or intimidating language or behaviour in a public place
· Misuse Transport for Greater Manchester services, including buses and Metrolink
· Not enter a defined area of Bridge Street, Ramsbottom
· Not enter the following retail outlets: Bargain Booze, 50 Bolton Road West, Ramsbottom;
Co-operative Food, 2 Vernon Road, Greenmount; Co-operative Food, 103 Parr Lane, Unsworth; Tesco Express, Irwell Street, Ramsbottom.
Councillor Jane Lewis, cabinet member for communities, said: “The council and police have
repeatedly tried to support Paul Platt in getting the help he needs to address his anti-social behaviour; however, he has persisted in causing nuisance and distress to others. The council and its partners are committed to putting a stop to behaviour that undermines the quality of life of our residents.”
Anyone suffering from anti-social behaviour should contact Bury Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team on 0161 253 5353 or, if they are a Six Town Housing tenant, 0161 686 8000.
