Press release -

Reminders to be registered to vote

Over the coming weeks Bury residents should look out for letters confirming whether they are registered to vote.

In mid-February Bury Council will be writing to all households to confirm the names of those who are registered. This is crucial to ensure people can vote in the General and Local Elections on Thursday 7 May.

The letter, which is being funded by the Government, will allow residents to check if they are registered. It also contains guidance on what steps to take if they are not registered or if new residents need to be added at the property, or if previous occupants need to be removed.

If the names of the electors on the register are correct then no action needs to be taken.

If they are not, then the simplest and easiest way for electors to register is online at https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

If residents cannot do this online then they should telephone Bury Council on 0161 253 5252. Residents will need their date of birth and National Insurance number when they do so.

This letter should not be mistaken for the Poll Card which will be sent out to each individual on the register in early April. This will give electors details of either their polling station or their postal vote.
