Students across Bury celebrate GCSE Results Day 2026

Young people across Bury have received their GCSE results today, an important moment in their lives so far.

Bury’s students have remained consistent in their GCSE results success, including an overall Attainment 8 score of 43.6, which is broadly in line with the 2025 results. 38.9% of students achieved a grade 9-5 in both English and maths. These initial results are subject to change following remarks/appeals and have been provided by all 13 mainstream high schools in Bury.

Councillor Sandra Walmsley, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Congratulations to everyone receiving their GCSE results today. This is an important achievement, and you should be incredibly proud of all the hard work, resilience and determination you have shown to reach this point.

“Whether your results are exactly what you hoped for or not, remember that there are many pathways to success. As you prepare for your next step, whether that's A Levels, T Levels, a vocational qualification, an apprenticeship or employment with training, I encourage you to embrace the opportunities ahead with confidence and ambition.

“Bury is continuing to invest in opportunities for young people, helping to create the skills, jobs and career pathways needed for the future. We are committed to ensuring every young person has the support they need to achieve their potential and pursue their aspirations.

“I would also like to thank our teachers, school staff, parents, carers and families for the encouragement and guidance they provide throughout the year. Their support plays a vital role in helping our young people succeed. Today is a celebration of the achievements of our students, and I wish them every success for the exciting journey ahead.”

I would also like to recognise the invaluable role played by parents, carers and families, whose encouragement and support help young people overcome challenges and achieve their goals.

“Whether students are progressing to sixth form, college, apprenticeships, training or employment, we are confident they have the skills, knowledge and aspirations to make the most of the opportunities ahead. We are proud of what they have achieved and look forward to seeing all they accomplish in the years to come."

Support and advice

The National Careers Service website (https://nationalcareers.servic... /) provides information, advice and guidance to help pupils make decisions on learning, training and work.

If any pupil is worried about their exam results, then they can access confidential and anonymous support through Shout, a 24-hour text messaging service (text GM to 85258) or they can chat with a friendly counsellor through Kooth (www.kooth.com).
