Today’s the Day! GCSE Results 2025

Young people across Bury have received their GCSE results today, an important moment in their lives so far.

Bury’s students have earned themselves an impressive set of results, including an overall Attainment 8 score of 44.4 compared to 45 last year. 39.2% of students achieved a grade 9-5 in both English and maths. These initial results are subject to change following remarks/appeals and have been provided by 10 of the 13 mainstream high schools in Bury.

Councillor Lucy Smith, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “Congratulations to all our GCSE students today on their results! I hope that you are happy with your results and can enjoy the rest of the summer holidays and relax ahead of starting your next step in September. Whatever you have chosen to do with your next step into education, whether it be A-Levels, T-Levels, BTEC or an Apprenticeship, Bury is building up our borough to ensure you can meet your career goals. A huge thank you to all our teachers and support staff who have supported our young people through their exams. Also, thank you to our parents and carers who are there every day helping and supporting young people achieve their dreams.”

Congratulations, and be proud of what you have achieved.A huge thank you to our teachers, support staff, parents and carers for their support and dedication to the young people of Bury. Katie, head girl at The Elton High School, said: “The teachers at Elton have been really supportive and made me feel like I could do the best during my exams, and their support has paid off! I’m heading to Holy Cross College to study French, English Language and History A-levels. I am very happy with my results.”

Will, head boy at The Elton High School, said: “The teachers have been great, and my parents love this school. The teachers do lots of intervention sessions and support. I am really happy with my results and I’m going to Holy Cross College to study Chemistry, Maths and Music Tech.”

Mrs C.H. Hubert, headteacher, The Derby High School, said: “Well done to all our students. We are incredibly proud of everything they have achieved and the wonderful human beings they have become. We wish them well for the next stage of their education or employment. The Derby has taught our young people to lead the way, and we know they will do great things with their lives. Their successes would not happen without the support of staff and their parents/carers, and I would like to thank them for their dedication and support.”

Mr J Wilton, headteacher, The Elton High School, said: “We’re delighted that so many students are here today to celebrate their results. Their hard work is shown through their achievements, and they are a credit to themselves and the school. I would like to thank our staff who have worked so hard throughout the year and thank you for the support given by students’ families, which is what Eton is all about, getting the best for our pupils. I wish them all the best for their next steps and beyond, and hope they get the success they all deserve.”

If any pupil is worried about their exam results, then they can access confidential and anonymous support through Shout, a 24-hour text messaging service (text GM to 85258) or they can chat with a friendly counsellor through Kooth (www.kooth.com).

There is also a dedicated page on the Bury Directory signposting services that can provide free, safe and anonymous emotional well-being support following the release of your examination results.
