Update on progressing the Radcliffe Civic Hub project

Initial works on a key part of the Radcliffe Regeneration project will begin next week.

It will focus on the site of the new Civic Hub, which will provide a new home for Radcliffe Leisure Centre and Radcliffe Library, together with other council services, learning opportunities and community space.

From Monday 30 May, for approximately 8 weeks, preparatory works will begin in the Radcliffe Piazza area.

This work will involve:

  • Site surveys of the Market Chambers building and Market Basement to support the project’s development.
  • Trial utility pits (excavation work to assess ground conditions and locate existing underground utility services).
  • The introduction of temporary fencing to secure the work and protect pedestrians.

Any noise and disruption due to this work will be kept to a minimum, access to businesses will be maintained at all times, and Radcliffe Carnival on 4 June will go ahead as planned and will not be affected.

Councillor Eamonn O’Brien, leader of the council, said: “This will be a tremendous year for Radcliffe, as regeneration of the town gets under way in earnest.

“Unprecedented levels of investment are going into transforming the centre. New community and leisure facilities, new opportunities for businesses, a new high school and new housing on brownfield land – all of this will make a real difference for generations to come.

“Please look at the plans and get involved in shaping the future of Radcliffe.”
