Press release -

Why not register online to vote?

A new system of voter registration is coming in – why not register online instead of filling in a paper form?

If you have moved in the last few months, and did not register for the election in May, now is a good time to go to at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
and update your registration. The website is very simple to use: you will only need to enter a few simple details, including your National Insurance number.

Registering is important because it not only entitles you to vote but it can have a big effect on your credit score. Citizens of the UK, Ireland, the EU or the Commonwealth, who are 17 years old or older, can register. Please note – being registered for council tax does not mean you are automatically registered to vote.

The online registration system is part of a change in the voter system from 10 June which means residents are now required to register individually, rather than filling in one form for a whole household.

For more information, visit www.gov.uk/yourvotematters
