Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) announces that it has issued proceedings at the High Court to seek an injunction to enable the operation of new 12 car train services on Gatwick Express. This follows the refusal of drivers, at the instruction of the ASLEF Union, to drive the first two services that had been due to operate in 12 car formation over the past ten days.
From Monday 18th April, the two-tier cycle rack at the rear of Brighton station (opposite the new cycle hub) will close for two weeks for essential maintenance.

Southern is putting on a series of special trains to ensure that everyone can get to the start of Brighton’s 2016 marathon. At 9.15am on Sunday 17th April, runners will start from Preston Park and finish at Brighton’s Madeira Drive.
Gatwick Express started the introduction of a new fleet of trains in February. These trains are much better for passengers with Wi-Fi, more space for luggage and full accessibility for disabled passengers, including those using mobility scooters who can’t use the older trains.

Network Rail is about to start a programme of work on a 10 mile stretch of the Arun Valley Line to remove, clean and replace ballast. The work will take place overnight until August, (with a two-week break in June) but in order for the programme to be completed within the 18-week period, changes to late evening Southern services on the line will be necessary.

10 young people with learning difficulties who have rarely or never travelled on a train before, have been shown just how easy it is from start to finish by Southern, travelling from Redhill station London Bridge, as part of Southern’s ‘Try the Train’ initiative.
Four youngsters have been offered permanent positions with Southern following their participation in a programme designed to help young people develop their employability skills. A further two candidates have been encouraged to apply for other roles within the company.
