Tradition and style meet high tech with Hövding’s new covers

Hövding released its third-generation airbag last autumn. Now, a new range of covers for Hövding 3 featuring classic patterns from renown fabric producers teams with Hövding’s advanced technology.

- Cyclists using Hövding do so primarily because it offers the safest head protection, but many also wish to express their personal style. In this winter collection, we are proud to showcase fabrics from Harris Tweed and Liberty. Classic patterns and tradition meet high tech in a perfect match, says Hövding CEO Fredrik Carling.

The Liberty cover called Paisley is designed to resemble a draped Liberty shawl. The highly weather resistant Harris Tweed cover is made with handwoven Scottish wool and vegan leather detailing. Soft fleece fabric, gentle on the skin, lines the inside of both covers, while their exteriors are equipped with reflective stripes for high visibility in the darkness of winter.

For those who would like to be even more visible, the yellow fabric of the HI-Vis cover is bright in daytime and its reflective text ensures visibility in the night. All the covers are compatible with Hövding 3 and can be left on during charging.

Hövding 3 was released in September after four years of research and product development to create the world’s most effective head protection to date with a uniquely designed new airbag. The collar’s adjustable size makes it fit snugly around the user’s neck. The new Hövding 3 can also be connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, creating exciting functions and new possibilities for users, while developing safer cities for cyclists.

Hövding’s advanced technology allows it to register the cyclist’s movements 200 times per second. During an accident, the airbag inflates in 0.1 second, enveloping the head and fixing the cyclist’s neck.

Hövding - Airbag for cyclists

Hövding started out in 2005 as a master’s thesis by the two founders Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin, who, at the time, were studying Industrial Design at the University of Lund.

The project resulted in the concept of an airbag helmet, which won Innovationsbron’s Ideas Grant. This kick-started the process of developing Hövding into a real product. In 2006 Hövding won the Venture Cup, after which Hövding Sweden AB was founded.

Over the years Hövding has grown from just two people with a great idea, to a NASDAQ-listed company that handle everything from development and production to marketing and sales. Today Hövding consists of a team of around 30 people, all triggered by the word impossible, and Hövding’s airbag for cyclists is available in 16 markets across Europe.

The headquarters are located in an old chocolate factory in Malmö – the sixth greatest cycling city in the world. Final assembly of Hövding is carried out in association with the Japanese Company Nihon Plast.
