Interim Report: September 2020-November 2020: Comments from the CEO Stefan Sjöstrand: The coronavirus pandemic continued to affect our operations in the first quarter 2020/21, and the process of Covid-proofing our destinations continued throughout the autumn. SkiStar is introducing a range of precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of our guests and employees.
SkiStar Hemsedal was first to announce that the resort will be opening for skiing on 11 December, together with SkiStar Trysil, and it's now also clear that SkiStar Åre, Sälen and Vemdalen will be opening during the week commencing 14 December (calendar week 51)*.
During the autumn, SkiStar has worked intensively in Norway and Sweden with destination companies, local and national actors such as the healthcare and emergency services as well as skiing industry organisations to help to protect guests and employees from Covid-19 during the forthcoming ski season. Based on standard industry guidelines, SkiStar is now implementing several safety measures.

When it comes to snow, it’s hard to beat Norway and Sweden. SkiStar’s five Scandinavian ski resorts have seen great conditions so far this season, with Åre, Sälen and Vemdalen in Sweden and Trysil and Hemsedal in Norway currently enjoying snow depths of between 62 cm and 168 cm.
Easter is the ideal time to get away for a family ski holiday; in fact, it’s something of a tradition in Sweden and Norway. With longer, warmer days, glorious pink sunrises and sunsets and a more chilled-out vibe on the slopes, the Easter holidays are the perfect time to relax and spend time together in nature.
Everyone was a beginner on the slopes at some point. We've all felt those butterflies and experienced that sense of terror mixed with elation. Ski instructor and mother-of-two Marie Stenmalm, manager of SkiStar's ski school in Sälen, has taught thousands of adults and children to take those first turns.
After nine winter seasons, SkiStar’s popular loyalty club, MySkiStar, has seen membership surpass 900,000. MySkiStar offers personalised deals and offers, free wifi and tools allowing skiers to track their stats, see how many calories they’ve burned, collect pins and find – as well as compete with – friends on the slopes.
If you’re keen to find your ski legs or up your game this winter, SkiStar is now offering longer, half day lessons at its Swedish and Norwegian resorts of Sälen, Trysil, Åre, Hemsedal and Vemdalen. With help from Scandinavia’s most renowned instructors, skiers of all ages and levels can really maximise their time on the slopes.
SkiStar has a great deal for young families this spring (March 23 - April 5), with free ski school, ski rental, ski pass and meals for children up to six years old as part of Valle's Family Weeks. Valle’s Ski School is the perfect place for children from three to nine to learn and hone their skills, and the fun carries on after lessons with SkiStar’s lovable snowman Valle putting on lively shows.
It’s been a dream start to the winter in Norway and Sweden, with all five of SkiStar’s award-winning Scandinavian resorts now open for skiing. Perfect conditions, with heavy snow, cold weather and a snow depth of 30cm-88cm, promise a memorable season ahead as snow continues to fall in Sälen, Trysil, Åre, Vemdalen and Hemsedal.
170 days of skiing await as Åre, Trysil, Vemdalen and Hemsedal welcome guests, with Sälen to follow. SkiStar’s winter season gets off to a glorious early start this weekend with Åre, Trysil and Vemdalen all officially opening on Friday November 15, with a historic first for Åre.
Ski travel operator SkiStar is investing heavily to develop Hundfjället in Sälen into a world-class ski resort. Scandinavia's newest express lift will be making its debut this winter, while a new accommodation concept and a brand new international airport will be opening within a few years and making the resort completely unique. Other highlights the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre.
Comments from the CEO Mats Årjes: With winter behind us, we are once again able to present the best nine-month results in SkiStar’s history. As we look back on the season, we have been able to offer our guests fantastic skiing at all our destinations from when the season began in December right through to its end.
Winter arrived early this season – the cold and snow have continued, which led to SkiStar’s resorts being in full operation for essentially the entire period. This is the underlying reason that SkiStar can present the best half-year results in its history.
SkiStar has developed its new digital platforms with a focus on customer requests, simplicity and inspiration. From a 360 perspective, the entire customer journey is covered, from idea to booking and stay at a SkiStar ski resort. The goal of the development is to make it easier for the customer to find information and book, whether it happens on a computer, an iPad or a mobile device.
The title sponsorship of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Åre 2019 puts SkiStar in the ideal position to acquire new guests. The exposure involved will give SkiStar the perfect communication platform with access to the entire European market.
Comments from the CEO Mats Årjes: Winter has arrived at our destinations and from week 49, all our ski resorts have opened for the season with good snow conditions. In addition to a covering of natural snow, the conditions for snow production have been good. Bookings, expressed as the number of overnight stays, are 2 percent higher than at the same point in the previous year.
- We have experienced another good winter season, which has contributed to a strong financial year, and we are once again able to present the best results in SkiStar’s history, with our financial targets achieved and exceeded.
