#TeamSCT - Meet Georgia who is running the London Marathon for us!

Name: Georgia Donaldson

From: London

Can you tell us why you’ve chosen to run the Virgin Money London Marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust?

The Sick Children’s Trust’s Rainbow House has supported our family since my sister was a baby. Knowing that somewhere exists that could give us a roof over our heads, a place to cook meals and a place to rest just minutes from her bedside was amazing. It meant that we she was never alone. She always had us there.

What are your top training tips?

  • Get up early and go for your long run!
My weekly routine has been to go for my long run at 7am on a Saturday. Not only do get to run during the best part of the day with the sun rise and beautiful skies, it's also so much quieter (no manoeuvring around crowds of people or waiting at every road). Plus you still get to enjoy the whole afternoon. Knowing that you've run 20 miles before midday is a great feeling!
  • Try out different products to find out what works for you.
  • There are so many different energy gels, chews, blocks, bars and drinks available and they won't all work for everyone so take some time to experiment with them during your training until you find the best ones for you.
  • Enjoy your training!
There have been times I’ve hated training for the marathon (mostly the freezing winter evening runs after long days at work) but I have also really loved it and there is no better run than one that you are really enjoying. I did 22 miles this weekend, through so many wonderful parts of London in the beautiful Spring sun and yes it was hard, but I definitely had a smile on my face for a lot of it and really was one of the best ways to start a weekend!

What will keep you going on your way round?

Thinking of my beautiful, inspirational and brave sister.
