#TeamSCT - Meet Michael who is running the London Marathon for us!

Name: Michael Tait

From: Chelmsford

Can you tell us why you’ve chosen to run the Virgin Money London Marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust?

My son Oliver was taken was rushed to The Royal London at just a few hours old after being diagnosed with TOF. Because of The Sick Children’s Trust, we could be by Oliver’s side at any time, pick him up and cuddle him when he was strong enough, and be there the moment he woke up. For that, I will forever feel indebted to the charity.

What are your top training tips?

  • Find a running partner.
This has helped me a lot for the longer runs, it just helped with motivation.
  • Remember why you’re doing it.
  • It's sounds very cliché but when I have found training tough, I would think of Oliver in his hospital bed when he was in intensive care. And I’d think about why I'm really running the marathon…for The Sick Children's Trust. For Alan, Irma and what the charity has done for my family. I've said it before but this is literally the very least I can do.

What will keep you going on your way round?

Generally speaking I'm a pretty fit guy who is very active, I take part in a lot of endurance sports but I have never taken part in a marathon before. Thinking of Oliver and The Sick Children’s Trust will keep me going!
