#TeamSCT - Meet Vikki, who is running the London Marathon for us!

Name: Vikki Wilkinson

Can you tell us why you’ve chosen to run the Virgin Money London Marathon for The Sick Children’s Trust?

I had not heard of The Sick Children’s Trust until a colleague's baby was poorly and required a long stay in hospital. He told me about Eckersley House in Leeds and the amazing support that they were receiving and thought it was a fabulous cause.

As a mother of three young children I can really understand the value of the ‘Home from Home’ accommodation and how important it is to be near your children when they’re unwell. When I received my place in the marathon through the ballot process, I decided The Sick Children’s Trust was the perfect charity for me to focus my fundraising efforts on.

What are your top three training tips?

  • Have a plan and stick with it!
I printed mine and ticked off each run so I had something to show me the progress I was making.
  • Work out a good stretching routine.
It makes all the difference for not feeling sore the next day.
  • Try not to bore people with the details of every run you have done and plan to do...
I haven't stuck to this and I think my friends and family will be very relieved that it's nearly over! ;-)

What will keep you going on your way round?

The thought of seeing my family at the finish line, taking off my trainers and celebrating with a glass of fizz.
