whatt.io Launches CAPTURE, a Mobile App for GS1 EPCIS 2.0 Event Capture and Unit-Level Digital Product Passports

Sweden 2026-04-30 whatt.io today announced the release of whatt.io CAPTURE, a new mobile application for Android designed to support role-based event capture for Digital Product Passports (DPPs) using GS1 EPCIS 2.0.

Built as a generic event workspace, CAPTURE is designed to serve as the foundation for future custom versions adapted to specific actors, brands, industries, and circular economy workflows. This makes the app suitable not only as a research and simulation tool, but also as a practical base for vertical solutions in areas such as repair, maintenance, service, logistics, and field operations.

CAPTURE is aligned with the CIRPASS-2 ontology for roles and actors, allowing the application to adapt event flows depending on who is performing the task. In a typical workflow, the user identifies themselves through an NFC ID badge, ID card, or similar credential, after which the app helps guide the user toward the correct GS1 EPCIS 2.0 event for the product and task in front of them.

Captured events are then connected to physical products equipped with unit-level Digital Product Passports, where they can be routed through brand-specific endpoints and added to the unique event history of that individual product. The app also supports broader workflows beyond unit-level handling, including aggregated batch-level event logic, giving organizations flexibility across different operational models.

With CAPTURE, whatt.io is extending its product stack beyond DPP publishing and management into mobile event handling for the real world. The release follows the recent silent launch of DPP Activator, a programming tool for NFC tags and unit-level DPP setup including backup URL support, token generation, and support for the whatt.io immutable ledger on Polygon. Together, these launches reflect the pace at which whatt.io is building practical tools for DPP management, publishing, security, validation, and event capture.

“CAPTURE is built as a generic event layer for the circular economy,” said Stephanie Wretman at whatt.io. “It gives us a strong foundation for creating tailored workflows for different industries and actors, while already supporting role-based GS1 EPCIS 2.0 event capture connected directly to Digital Product Passports on UNIT level.”
