The science behind children’s omega-3 recommendations

Close to 6.3 billion people today are not getting enough Omega-3 from their diet, according to the GBD (Global Burden of Disease). Our Western diet is not as nutritious as it used to be, and most children don’t reach the recommended fish intake. The National Institutes of Health states that the Omega-3 deficiency in children is close to 80% in Europe and as high as 94% in the US. Consequently, more parents are turning to supplementation to help fill in these nutritional gaps.
During this Meeting of Minds webinar, led by Zinzino’s Chief Product Officer, Dr. Colin Robertson, he and our special guest Dr. Emmalee Gisslevik Research & Development Specialist will share their knowledge on health and the scientific evidence about children’s unique Omega-3 needs compared to those of adults.
Dr. Emmalee Gisslevik will discuss and explore the scientific evidence that led to the development of the world’s first child-specific omega-3 recommendations. From dosage through index to cellular ratio, Zinzino’s very own omega specialist will take a deep dive into the research and show the step taken in this pioneering journey.

She has been a researcher within the Gothenburg epidemiological cohort studies looking at food habits in relation to health and disease. She also has a background in teaching at the University of Gothenburg with a primary focus on human physiology, nutrition, and dietary habits.
