Zinzino maintains Friend of the Sea certification for its enduring commitment to sustainability

Friend of the Sea, the global certification standard for products and services that respect and protect the marine environment, is pleased to renew Zinzino’s certification for using sustainable fish oil in the production of their all-natural food supplements based on 60% pure fish oil from wild-caught small fish and 40% extra virgin olive oil. The company, certified since 2018, can thus continue to display the Friend of the Sea label on its BalanceOil+ product line.

A global, e-commerce-based company based in Scandinavia, Zinzino is one of Europe’s fastest-growing direct sales businesses devoted to shape the future within the health and wellness industry. The company has developed breakthrough nutraceutical products based on their concept of balanced nutrition since 2012.

Zinzino’s product philosophy is addressing the imbalance in the daily diet and modern way of life by focusing its research on the adverse effects of consuming more Omega-6 than Omega-3. As a result, Zinzino developed a unique scientific formulation of Polyphenol Omega Balance food supplements designed to safely restore the Omega-6:3-balance in the body from within.

The BalanceOil+ range contain sustainably harvested fish oil derived from small pelagic fish such as anchovies, sardines, and mackerel, rich in Omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. Additionally, the unique formulation incorporates cold-pressed, extra virgin olive oil with polyphenols and Omega-9.

Zinzino was first certified by Friend of the Sea in 2018 as a recognition for using sustainable fish oil to develop its products and has since maintained its commitment towards sustainability, a core value for the company. The fish oils used by Zinzino are derived from short-lived, wild-caught fish, harvested by sustainable fisheries in authorized areas, and following the Friend of the Sea criteria.

“Using sustainably sourced, natural ingredients is an essential part of our brand’s core values. We strongly believe that to maintain balance in our body, we also have to respect the balance of the planet and its resources,” said Gabriele Helmer, CMO at Zinzino. “For this reason, we’re very proud to be certified by Friend of the Sea.”

Friend of the Sea is the leading international standard for producers of fish oil, fish meal, and Omega-3. Producers of Omega-3 supplements verify their suppliers are listed as approved and therefore implement sustainable fishing practices. In this way, they can provide a third-party assurance to consumers worldwide. The criteria for sustainable nutraceutical products require well-managed sources of fish oil and fishmeal ingredients, traceability, and social accountability.

“Maintaining a balance between our health and the planet’s is crucial. Therefore, Omega-3 producers must join the efforts to bolster sustainability. For this reason, we are pleased to see Zinzino reaffirm its commitment to sustainable practices,” said Paolo Bray, Founder, and CEO of Friend of the Sea.
