Aroundtown-Büroobjekt Erasmusstaete als Finalist bei den BREEAM Awards 2026 nominiert
Internationale Anerkennung für nachhaltige Instandhaltung des Rotterdamer Gebäudes in der Kategorie In-Use Performance
Aroundtown wurde mit dem Bürogebäude Erasmusstaete in Rotterdam bei den diesjährigen BREEAM Awards 2026 als Finalist in der Kategorie In-Use Performance ausgewählt. Die Nominierung bestätigt die erfolgreiche nachhaltige Weiterentwicklung des Bestandsgebäudes und unterstreicht die Fortschritte von Aroundtown bei der konsequenten systematischen Integration von ESG-Kriterien in Betrieb, Instandhaltung und Asset Management. Damit wurde bereits zum zweiten Mal in Folge ein Aroundtown-Gebäude nominiert.
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) ist eines der international führenden Zertifizierungssysteme für nachhaltige Gebäude und bewertet ökologische sowie soziokulturelle Aspekte der Immobiliennutzung. Die BREEAM Awards zählen zu den renommierten internationalen Auszeichnungen im Bereich nachhaltiger Immobilien. Teilnahmeberechtigt sind Organisationen weltweit, die BREEAM in ihren Projekten oder Portfolios anwenden.
Erasmusstaete ist ein Multi-Tenant-Bürogebäude im Rotterdamer Brainpark II District. Das Objekt erzielte im Jahr 2022 zunächst ein BREEAM In-Use Rating von „Pass“ mit einem Score von 32,21 %. Durch eine konsequente nachhaltige Optimierungsstrategie konnte die Bewertung bis 2025 auf „Very Good“ mit einem Score von 62,58 % verbessert werden. Aroundtown entwickelt die Nachhaltigkeitsperformance seines niederländischen Portfolios auch nach Erreichen einer vollständigen BREEAM-Zertifizierungsquote konsequent weiter. Im Jahr 2025 konnten 34 Objekte in ihrer BREEAM-Bewertung verbessert werden; 93 % der rezertifizierten Objekte erhielten dabei die Bewertung „Gut“ oder „Sehr Gut“.
„Die Nominierung von Erasmusstaete bei den BREEAM Awards ist eine starke Bestätigung für unseren Ansatz, Nachhaltigkeit konsequent im Bestand zu verankern. Die deutliche Steigerung wurde durch gezielte Maßnahmen im laufenden Gebäudebetrieb erreicht. Dazu zählen unter anderem die Installation von Photovoltaikanlagen, die Umstellung auf LED-Beleuchtung, die Verbesserung der raumlufttechnischen Anlagen sowie Maßnahmen zur Förderung der Biodiversität. Damit zeigt Erasmusstaete exemplarisch, wie Bestandsgebäude durch methodische und kontinuierliche Verbesserungen eine signifikant höhere Nachhaltigkeitsperformance erreichen können.
Das Gebäude erfüllt inzwischen die Paris-Proof-2050-Energieziele und erreicht einen WEii-Wert von 65 kWh/m² pro Jahr. Damit zählt Erasmusstaete zu den ersten Paris-Proof-Assets des niederländischen Aroundtown-Portfolios und steht im Einklang mit dem CRREM-1,5-°C-Pfad für 2050. Gleichzeitig konnte die Vollvermietung des Gebäudes aufrechterhalten werden. Dies verdeutlicht, dass ökologische Performance, Nutzerbindung und kommerzielle Zielsetzungen erfolgreich miteinander verbunden werden können.
Die im Rahmen des BREEAM-In-Use-Prozesses gewonnenen Erkenntnisse und Best Practices werden auch auf weitere Gebäude im Aroundtown-Portfolio übertragen.

International recognition for the sustainable maintenance of the Rotterdam building in the In-Use Performance category
Aroundtown’s office building Erasmusstaete in Rotterdam has been selected as a finalist in the In-Use Performance category at this year’s BREEAM Awards 2026. The nomination recognises the successful sustainable development of the existing building and underlines Aroundtown’s progress in systematically integrating ESG criteria into operations, maintenance and asset management. This marks the second consecutive nomination for an Aroundtown building.
BREEAM, the Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, is one of the world’s leading certification systems for sustainable buildings and assesses both environmental and socio-cultural aspects of building use. The BREEAM Awards are among the most renowned international awards in the field of sustainable real estate. Organisations from around the world that apply BREEAM in their projects or portfolios are eligible to participate.
Erasmusstaete is a multi-tenant office building and located in Rotterdam’s Brainpark II district. The property initially achieved a BREEAM In-Use rating of “Pass” with a score of 32.21% in 2022. Through a consistent sustainable optimisation strategy, the rating was improved to “Very Good” with a score of 62.58% by 2025. Aroundtown continues to advance the sustainability performance of its Dutch portfolio even after achieving full BREEAM certification coverage. In 2025, 34 properties improved their BREEAM rating, with 93% of recertified assets achieving a rating of “Good” or “Very Good”.

The significant improvement was achieved through targeted measures in ongoing building operations. These include the installation of photovoltaic panels, the conversion to LED lighting, upgrades to air handling systems and measures to enhance biodiversity. Erasmusstaete therefore demonstrates how existing buildings can achieve a significantly higher sustainability performance through a methodical and continuous improvement approach.
The building now meets the Paris Proof 2050 energy targets and achieves a WEii score of 65 kWh/sqm per year. This makes Erasmusstaete one of the first Paris Proof assets within Aroundtown’s Dutch portfolio and aligns it with the CRREM 1.5°C pathway for 2050. At the same time, the building has maintained full occupancy, demonstrating that environmental performance, tenant retention and commercial objectives can be successfully combined.
The insights and best practices gained through the BREEAM In-Use process are also being applied to further buildings across Aroundtown’s portfolio.

Het kantoorgebouw Erasmusstaete van Aroundtown in Rotterdam is geselecteerd als finalist in de categorie In-Use Performance bij de BREEAM Awards 2026. De nominatie vormt een erkenning voor de succesvolle duurzame doorontwikkeling van het bestaande gebouw en onderstreept de vooruitgang die Aroundtown boekt bij de systematische integratie van ESG-criteria in exploitatie, onderhoud en assetmanagement. Voor Aroundtown is dit de tweede nominatie op rij.
BREEAM, de Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, is een van ’s werelds toonaangevende certificeringssystemen voor duurzame gebouwen en beoordeelt zowel ecologische als sociaal-culturele aspecten van gebouwgebruik. De BREEAM Awards behoren tot de meest gerenommeerde internationale onderscheidingen op het gebied van duurzaam vastgoed. Organisaties wereldwijd die BREEAM toepassen binnen hun projecten of portefeuilles komen in aanmerking voor deelname.
Erasmusstaete is een multi-tenant kantoorgebouw en is gevestigd in de wijk Brainpark II in Rotterdam. Het gebouw behaalde in 2022 aanvankelijk een BREEAM In-Use-classificatie “Pass” met een score van 32,21%. Dankzij een consequente strategie gericht op duurzame optimalisatie werd de classificatie in 2025 verbeterd naar “Very Good”, met een score van 62,58%. Aroundtown blijft de duurzaamheidsprestaties van zijn Nederlandse portefeuille verder verbeteren, ook nadat volledige BREEAM-certificeringsdekking is bereikt. In 2025 verbeterden 34 objecten hun BREEAM-rating; 93% van de opnieuw gecertificeerde assets behaalde een beoordeling “Good” of “Very Good”.

De aanzienlijke verbetering is gerealiseerd door gerichte maatregelen binnen de lopende gebouwexploitatie. Daartoe behoren de installatie van zonnepanelen, de omschakeling naar ledverlichting, verbeteringen aan de luchtbehandelingssystemen en maatregelen ter versterking van de biodiversiteit. Erasmusstaete laat daarmee zien hoe bestaande gebouwen via een methodische en continue verbeteringsaanpak een aanzienlijk hogere duurzaamheidsprestatie kunnen bereiken.
Het gebouw voldoet inmiddels aan de Paris Proof 2050-energiedoelstellingen en behaalt een WEii-score van 65 kWh/m² per jaar. Daarmee behoort Erasmusstaete tot de eerste Paris Proof-assets binnen de Nederlandse portefeuille van Aroundtown en sluit het gebouw aan op het CRREM 1,5°C-pad richting 2050. Tegelijkertijd is het gebouw volledig verhuurd gebleven, wat aantoont dat milieuprestaties, huurdersbehoud en commerciële doelstellingen succesvol hand in hand kunnen gaan.
