ABO Energy Celebrates Inauguration of First Hydrogen Project

After several years of planning and around 13 months of construction, ABO Energy has now successfully completed the first hydrogen project in the company's history. The pilot project in Hünfeld-Michelsrombach, Hesse, consists of a wind turbine, a 5 MW electrolysis plant (hydrogen production) and a hydrogen filling station with a trailer filling station. The plant is scheduled to produce up to 450 tons of hydrogen per year.

ABO Energy was recently awarded the BSFZ seal of approval by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for its commitment to the hydrogen sector. A decisive success factor in the planning and implementation was the partner company ABO Kraft & Wärme, which will also operate the filling station. The project received a total of twelve million euros in funding from the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) as part of the National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP).

"The project marks a milestone for our company, but also for the energy transition in Germany. The plant is unique in this form in Germany and one of the first projects to produce certified green hydrogen. Only renewable hydrogen will help us to restructure the energy system sustainably and achieve our goal of reaching greenhouse gas neutrality by 2045," said Jochen Ahn, thanking the many partners from industry, associations and regional and local politics
