Bridges Across the North Sea: AquaVentus Cooperates with Hydrogen Scotland

The energy transition in Europe is receiving a new boost: AquaVentus and Hydrogen Scotland signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding at the Offshore Europe trade fair in Aberdeen. The goal of the cooperation is to significantly strengthen hydrogen production and transport in the North Sea region and better utilize the potential of the shared infrastructure.

The two leading associations are thus joining forces to advance the development and deployment of technologies along the entire value chain. Furthermore, both organizations intend to intensify their research activities and jointly engage in political advocacy for the scale-up of a European hydrogen economy.

Offshore wind energy from the North Sea will play a key role in supplying the coastal countries with climate-neutral energy. To ensure efficient use of this energy, combined infrastructure such as power lines and hydrogen pipelines is needed. This is precisely where AquaVentus and Hydrogen Scotland come in: By connecting wind power, offshore electrolysis, and a European hydrogen backbone, the development of a transnational energy market is to be accelerated. The increased German-Scottish cooperation is also reflected in Scottish Enterprise's recent membership in AquaVentus.

"As Europe's largest industrial location, Germany relies on reliable quantities of green hydrogen. The collaboration with our partners in Scotland opens up enormous opportunities: We are combining offshore wind, electrolysis, and a shared pipeline infrastructure. In this way, we create security of supply, economic prospects, and real added value for the energy transition throughout Europe," said Jörg Singer, CEO of AquaVentus.
