EDEKA Opens Bio-LNG Filling Station for Climate-Friendly Logistics
EDEKA Minden-Hannover is setting standards for environmentally friendly delivery logistics and has opened a new filling station for the innovative REEFUEL Bio-LNG fuel at the EDEKA logistics site in Mittenwalde, Brandenburg. With the opening, the retail company is enabling its trucks to refuel with the CO2-free fuel alternative and is decisively driving the change towards sustainable transport solutions. The basis for the supply is a long-term supply contract with the medium-sized company Alternoil from Steinfeld (Vechta district). The company has been supplying the required quantities of fuel since May 2023 and is gradually building up the filling station infrastructure at EDEKA Minden-Hannover's logistics locations in order to run the entire truck fleet on bio-LNG in future.
Around 500 LNG trucks of the IVECO S-WAY LNG model are currently already in use for EDEKA Minden-Hannover. The entire fleet will be expanded to around 650 vehicles by the beginning of 2026. The new filling station in Mittenwalde complements the existing infrastructure of bio-LNG filling stations. When the sixth bio-LNG filling station in Freienbrink goes into operation in fall 2025, all of EDEKA Minden-Hannover's logistics locations will be equipped accordingly. By switching to Bio-LNG, EDEKA Minden-Hannover can save up to 45,000 tons of CO2 per year - a figure equivalent to the emissions of a small town.
"Our collaboration with EDEKA Minden-Hannover underlines the importance of strategic partnerships for a climate-neutral future in the transport sector. This switch to REEFUEL shows how responsibility and innovation can work together to bring about real change in heavy goods transport." Benedikt Rolfes, Managing Director of Alternoil GmbH, also emphasizes: “REEFUEL already enables 100 percent CO2 savings today and proves that climate-friendly heavy goods transport can already be a reality today.”
