EU funds H2 HUB Lubmin of Deutsche ReGas

The European Commission has selected Deutsche ReGas' project to produce green hydrogen from its large-scale electrolysis plant in Lubmin with funding of around 112 million euros. This makes Deutsche ReGas the first German company to win funding in the European hydrogen bank's auction. A total of 15 projects from five different countries that will produce hydrogen from renewable energy sources were awarded funding. The funding amount of the European Hydrogen Bank auction, which was held for the second time, amounts to a total of 992 million, almost one billion euros.

With this funding, the European Union is pursuing the goal of driving forward the decarbonization of industry, accelerating the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy and at the same time reducing dependence on fossil fuels on the continent. In total, hydrogen production at Deutsche ReGas' H2 hub in Lubmin can avoid emissions of 1,628,000 tons of CO2 within ten years. Deutsche ReGas can thus make a significant contribution to decarbonization and a sustainable German industry.

“It was our goal from the outset to secure the supply of energy and at the same time drive forward the energy transition. The selection of our project for funding from the EU Innovation Fund confirms our plans for the Lubmin site and is an important step towards realizing the project. It also shows the strength of the Deutsche ReGas team as a medium-sized company in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in bringing energy projects to implementation maturity,” says Ingo Wagner, Managing Partner of Deutsche ReGas.
