Everllence Presents Two-Stroke Ammonia Engine for the Global Shipping Industry

At a two-day conference in Copenhagen in November, Everllence unveiled its new dual-fuel ammonia engine, the ME-LGIA (Liquid Gas Injection Ammonia). Representatives from various sectors of the maritime industry attended the event. The first deliveries of the new engine are scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

The ME-LGIA is based on the proven diesel principle and the dual-fuel concept with liquid gas injection. This allowed Everllence to draw on technical experience from previously developed engines that run on methanol or LPG. At the same time, the engine was specifically adapted to the unique properties of ammonia as a fuel. This includes additional safety measures such as containment systems, sensors, special ventilation concepts, and double-walled piping.

Another key focus is the digital connectivity of the engines. The ME-LGIA enables the secure and reliable transmission of operating and engine data to Everllence's land-based monitoring systems. The analysis of real-time data is intended to contribute to performance optimization, remote support, and more efficient and sustainable ship operations. Data-driven applications are considered a key component for the decarbonization of shipping and the use of new fuels such as ammonia.

Everllence sees itself playing a key role in the transformation of the maritime industry with the development of the ME-LGIA. According to CEO Dr. Uwe Lauber, the introduction of new fuels is not only a technological innovation but also a prerequisite for climate-neutral shipping. Ammonia plays a central role in this, and the development of the new engine marks another concrete step toward a low-emission future.
