H2APEX completes take over of Lubmin hydrogen project
Rostock-based company H2APEX has taken over the hydrogen project of the company HH2E at the Lubmin site at the beginning of July. In addition to its own project, which has been in existence since 2023, H2APEX now has another project for the production of green hydrogen at the Lubmin site. Due to its direct access to the hydrogen core network ("Wasserstoffkernnetz"), Lubmin is considered one of Germany's most attractive hydrogen locations.
The property belonging to the project that has now been taken over already has a grid connection from the transmission system operator 50Hertz as well as a water supply. Such connections are important for the successful realization of hydrogen production.
With the takeover of the project from HH2E, H2APEXis planning to build a 100 MW plant in the first expansion stage. This is to be realized by 2028. In the medium term, production capacity is to be expanded to 1,000 MW. In addition, the company has already been developing an electrolysis plant with a production capacity of 100 MW in the first expansion stage on its own land in Lubmin since 2023, also by 2028. H2APEX plans to analyze the current project status and build on it. In addition, the existing company is now to be renamed and a management board appointed following the change of ownership.
In November 2024, HH2E filed for insolvency after the majority shareholder refused to finance the Lubmin project.
