Hintco announces Global Lot for green hydrogen
Hintco, a project company of the H2Global Foundation, has opened the application phase for international lots as part of the current auction round for renewable hydrogen and its derivatives. With this so-called “Global Lot,” hydrogen produced worldwide is to be imported into Germany and the Netherlands in order to support the establishment of reliable supply chains.
Back in February, Hintco had launched the second H2Global auction round, based on a cooperation between the German and Dutch governments. In July, the first application phases opened for four regional lots focusing on Africa, Asia, North America, as well as South America and Oceania. The Global Lot sets a different focus by not being geographically limited. Producers worldwide can participate, provided they deliver the hydrogen to Germany and the Netherlands in accordance with the auction criteria.
Hintco also confirmed that both countries have defined their funding periods. Germany plans a ten-year support scheme starting in 2032 with a budget of 300 million euros, subject to the approval of the federal budget at the end of this year. The Netherlands has fixed its period from 2028 to 2036. In this way, long-term commitments are to be created in order to provide planning security for investors and project developers.
The underlying procedure is also known as the “double auction mechanism.” First, Hintco purchases hydrogen or its derivatives through auctions from certain regions over a period of ten years. Subsequently, Hintco sells this hydrogen to bidders from Germany and the Netherlands. The difference between the revenues from the sales and the expenses for procurement is covered by state subsidies.
