New Holland presents powerful biomethane tractor

Agricultural machinery manufacturer New Holland is expanding its range of alternative drive systems with a new tractor that runs on compressed natural gas (CNG) or biomethane, specifically designed for larger farms and operators of biogas plants.

The T7.270 Methane Power is based on New Holland’s established T7 series and, according to the manufacturer, will be available to order in Europe from the end of 2025, with deliveries scheduled to begin in spring 2026. With this model, New Holland aims to reaffirm its position as a pioneer in low-emission drive technologies for the agricultural sector.

The T7.270 is equipped with an enhanced 6.7-litre six-cylinder “NEF” engine optimized for biomethane operation. It delivers a maximum output of 270 hp and 1,160 Nm of torque—figures that, according to the company, match those of comparable diesel versions. A key feature is the optimized gas storage system: the standard configuration offers 657 litres of tank capacity, which can be expanded with an optional 480-litre range extender, resulting in a total capacity of 1,106 litres (around 204 kg of biomethane). This setup enables up to 11 hours of autonomous operation in transport applications.

Refuelling is carried out via an NGV2 connector at a pressure of up to 260 bar, similar to CNG refuelling systems used in heavy-duty trucks, ensuring short refuelling times. For driver comfort, the tractor features the particularly quiet “Horizon Ultra” cab, with a noise level of just 66 dB. It also includes a stepless Auto Command transmission and the New Holland Intelligence digital platform, which enables seamless data exchange between the machine, the field, and farm management systems.
