RWE Reserves Electrolyzer Capacity with ITM Power

ITM Power has signed an agreement with the German energy company RWE for the reservation of 150 megawatts of electrolyzer capacity. Specifically, RWE is securing access to a total of 30 units of the new NEPTUNE V electrolyzer type through 2027, the British manufacturer announced in a press release.

The new generation of electrolyzers is designed as a containerized solution and includes all necessary components (“balance of plant”). This is intended to enable significantly faster installation and commissioning, while multiple modules can also be flexibly interconnected.

The newly agreed capacity reservation deepens the existing collaboration between ITM Power and RWE. The two companies have already implemented a joint 4 MW pilot project, and ITM Power is also supplying RWE with a 200 MW plant for the GetH2 Nucleus project in Lingen.

ITM Power CEO Dennis Schulz stated that the additional reservation is an important signal for the partnership with RWE: “This agreement underscores RWE’s confidence in our technology and our ability to deliver.” For ITM Power, the reservation is also further proof of market acceptance of the new NEPTUNE V electrolyzers.

By securing long-term production capacity for green hydrogen, RWE aims to strengthen its role in the energy transition. When and to what extent the reserved units will be implemented in specific projects will be announced in due course.
