State of Bavaria Pledges Funding for an 8 MW Electrolyzer in Münnerstadt
The H2 Hub Münnerstadt has received funding of five million euros from the Bavarian Electrolyzer Support Program for its 8-MW electrolyzer project. Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs Hubert Aiwanger recently presented the corresponding approval notice. The electrolyzer is expected to produce around 800 tons of green hydrogen annually, making it a key component of the regional energy transition. Due to its proximity to major consumers and the planned hydrogen refueling stations along the B287 and A71, the site will also be relevant for the transport sector – from heavy-duty traffic to municipal fleets.
The project is being implemented by a consortium of local authorities, industry, and SMEs. Participants include the city of Münnerstadt, Infener AG as project developer and potential operator, as well as Sauerstoffwerke Friedrich Guttroff GmbH, Stolz Holding GmbH & Co. KG, Nipro PharmaPackaging Germany GmbH, AMS Asphaltmischwerke Main–Saale GmbH + Co. KG, and R3 RegionalEnergie GmbH. Together, they aim to decarbonize industrial processes, strengthen supply security, and complement the future hydrogen core network through decentralized production.
For Münnerstadt’s Mayor Michael Kastl, the project sends an important signal. The funding enables a hydrogen initiative that combines production, industrial consumption, and energy infrastructure in close proximity – a model with strong impact for the entire region.
