‘The Approval of HyPipe One Marks a Milestone in the Development of Hydrogen Infrastructure,’ Said Aiwanger

The government of Upper Bavaria has granted the transmission system operator bayernets approval for the HyPipe one hydrogen pipeline. The project is part of the national hydrogen core grid, which will benefit not only the chemical industry in the Burghausen area but also other regions in Bavaria, such as Ingolstadt. The aim is to enable the scale-up of a hydrogen economy in Bavaria and to connect import opportunities from international sources.

HyPipe one is part of the HyPipe Bavaria – The Hydrogen Hub project and has been classified as a PCI project (project of common interest) by the EU due to its overarching importance. The pipeline will have a total length of approximately 15 kilometres and is located near the border crossing point with Austria, enabling the region to be connected to hydrogen import corridors at an early stage. As part of this project, bayernets GmbH and its partners are planning to gradually build a 300-kilometre hydrogen grid in Bavaria, with commissioning planned for the early 2030s.

"The approval of HyPipe one marks an important milestone for us in the implementation of our transformation plans for supra-regional gas and hydrogen transport. The start of these first concrete implementation measures is the prelude to the realisation of the national hydrogen core grid and our European PCI project HyPipe Bavaria – The Hydrogen Hub. This will enable us to offer local solutions for connection to a supraregional grid and links to our international projects such as SoutH2 Corridor or H2EU+Store," says Dr Matthias Jenn, Managing Director of bayernets GmbH.

"Now it's time to use the approval, build and complete the project. The faster we establish an efficient hydrogen transport infrastructure in Bavaria, the better it will be for our economy and our energy supply," emphasises Bavaria's Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, Hubert Aiwanger.
