TUI Cruises Expands its Use of Bio-LNG in the Cruise Industry
In June 2026, TUI Cruises GmbH launched a new ship in the InTUItion class. As the second ship in the Mein Schiff Flow fleet, it is equipped with a dual-fuel propulsion system, allowing it to run on both marine diesel and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The use of bio-LNG is possible without any technical modifications.
According to the company, its sister ship, Mein Schiff Flow, has been regularly bunkering bio-LNG in Barcelona since the summer of 2026 and will continue to operate on this climate-friendly fuel throughout the winter. Other ships with this capability, such as Mein Schiff Relax, are scheduled to complete their voyages in Northern Europe entirely on bio-LNG this summer. The launch of the second ship demonstrates the market readiness of this fuel and the maturity of the corresponding propulsion systems.
Wybcke Meier, CEO of TUI Cruises, emphasized the company's decarbonization strategy as a key component. The goal is to gradually reduce the environmental impact of its business operations. By using bio-LNG, around 26,000 tons of CO₂e were already saved in 2026 – compared to an operation using conventional fuels (as of July 2026).
