GT World Challenge Asia: Bastian Buus on Top in Thailand

The Danish Porsche factory driver claimed a class victory in the third round of GT World Challenge Asia, helping Origine Motorsports secure a strong overall points haul.

Bastian Buus returned to the podium in GT World Challenge Asia this past weekend, taking the Pro-Am class win in the third round of the Asian GT3 championship. The Dane claimed victory in the weekend’s opening race alongside Origine Motorsports teammate Lu Wei, while the second race resulted in a seventh-place finish.

"It was a strong weekend for the team—actually stronger than we had hoped for. During the initial practice sessions, we didn’t feel particularly competitive—Porsches in general seemed off the pace—but things turned around for the better. It was quite a chaotic race with a number of incidents, but we managed to stay clear of trouble and turn around what looked like a tough race from the outset,” said Bastian Buus.

The Pro-Am win came despite a 15-second success penalty served in the pit lane, following a class win in the previous round in Indonesia. Buus and Wei were so quick that they not only took the class victory but also secured an overall third-place finish on the podium.

"All in all, it was a great weekend for the team. The results gave us a solid points haul, allowing us to close the gap to nearly all the rivals we’re fighting in the championship. The team is back in the game after a difficult season opener, so we’re very satisfied.”

Following the race in Thailand, Bastian Buus now heads back to Europe for one of the year’s biggest challenges: the Nürburgring 24 Hours, taking place on June 21–22. More than 100 cars are expected to take the start in the iconic German endurance classic, where Buus will compete in the top-tier SP9 class with the Pirelli-backed Porsche team Dinamic GT, alongside Matteo Cairoli, Joel Sturm, and Loek Hartog.
