GTWC: Bastian Buus Claimed Pole and Victory in Sprint Cup Debut

Pole position and class win for the Danish Porsche factory driver, who made his debut in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup at Zandvoort this past weekend.

Round three of the GT World Challenge Europe at Circuit Zandvoort turned out to be a successful one for Bastian Buus and teammate Bashar Mardini. Thanks to a phenomenal qualifying performance by Buus — who on Saturday secured overall pole position across all classes — the Porsche duo from Lionspeed GP got off to a strong start in the weekend’s opening sprint race, which ultimately resulted in a well-earned class victory.

Buus and Mardini competed in the Bronze Cup class, and it was the Dane’s first-ever participation in a GT World Challenge sprint race — as it was for the rest of the team.

“We were on the pace from the start, and it was a great result for the whole team to take overall pole in a field of 41 cars. From there, it was just about bringing home the class win,” said Bastian Buus.

In qualifying for the second sprint race of the weekend, Bashar Mardini secured sixth place, while Buus brought the car across the finish line in fifth position in the Bronze Cup class.

“All things considered, it’s been a really good weekend. The results mean we’re now in a strong position in the championship, so I’m happy on behalf of the entire team. Now it’s all about carrying this momentum forward.”

Next up for Bastian Buus is already happening later this week, as he heads to Germany’s Nürburgring for the ADAC 24h Qualifiers — two four-hour races that serve as the final major shakedown ahead of the 24-hour race on June 21–22. Buus will be racing with Dinamic GT, teaming up with Matteo Cairoli, Joel Sturm, and Loek Hartog.
