IMSA: Frederik Schandorff Secures Le Mans points in Canada
The Danish Ferrari driver helped his teammate extend the lead in the Bob Akin Championship during round six of the IMSA series at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
Frederik Schandorff returned to the IMSA series this past weekend, competing in round six of the GTD championship. The goal was clear: to support teammate Brendan Iribe in scoring as many points as possible in the Bob Akin Championship – a parallel title for FIA-classified bronze drivers, with the winner earning an invitation to the 2026 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Mission accomplished.
Schandorff and Iribe finished sixth and were the highest-placed Ferrari in the GTD class after a race that saw the Danish driver take on a major recovery drive following a challenging start.
“It wasn’t the result we were hoping for, but under the circumstances, it was the best we could take away from the weekend,” said Frederik Schandorff.
The Inception Racing duo started from 11th on the GTD grid in the two-hour and 40-minute race, where Brendan Iribe was involved in an early incident. Fortunately, the American was able to continue, though he had dropped to 12th place by the time he handed over the yellow Ferrari to Schandorff.
“From there, it was all about fighting back. I managed to work our way up the field and pull off some strong overtakes. A sixth-place finish in GTD gives us valuable points for the championship – but most importantly, we finished as the top bronze entry, which allowed us to extend the lead in the Bob Akin standings. That remains our main target for the season,” the Dane added.
Next up for Schandorff, Iribe and the Inception Racing crew is round seven of the IMSA GTD championship, taking place on August 3 at Road America in Wisconsin.
