Sebastian Øgaard Determined to Bounce Back at the 24 Hours of Spa
The Danish Audi driver returns to the Ardennes with hopes of redemption as the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps gets underway this weekend.
For Sebastian Øgaard, this year’s edition of the legendary 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps presents a new opportunity to deliver on one of motorsport’s biggest stages. The 21-year-old Dane will take on the Belgian endurance classic with the Audi outfit Tresor Competition, aiming to see the checkered flag—and bring home a strong result.
It will be Øgaard’s second attempt at the gruelling challenge in the Ardennes. Last year, he competed for Aston Martin squad Comtoyou Racing but was forced to retire just four hours into the race after the car was involved in a major crash.
“I’m incredibly excited and feeling well prepared. Unfortunately, we didn’t make it far last year, so this time I’m really hoping we can get through the full race and come away with a good result. I’m not too worried about the pace—I believe we’ve got a strong car. It’s more about getting everything to run perfectly,” says Sebastian Øgaard.
The Dane will share his Audi R8 GT3 with his regular teammates from the GT World Challenge, Italians Leonardo Moncini and Riccardo Cazzaniga. For the 24-hour race, they will be joined by a fourth driver, Rocco Mazzola. The quartet will compete in the Gold Cup class, where they’ll go up against 11 other GT3 cars.
The team arrives at Spa-Francorchamps with confidence, having secured yet another podium finish in the most recent round of the GT World Challenge Europe at Monza. In fact, Øgaard has stepped onto the podium in four of the six races so far this season. Now, a relentless 24-hour battle awaits, with a total of 75 cars entered in the field.
“We feel well prepared, and now it’s all about avoiding mistakes and keeping everything together over 24 hours. It’s a long race and anything can happen—but we’re ready,” says Øgaard.
The opening practice sessions and qualifying for this year’s 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps take place on Thursday, June 26. The race goes green on Saturday, June 28 at 16:30 and can be followed live on YouTube.
