    The Port of Gothenburg and the Port of Rotterdam kick off Green Corridor initiative for sustainable shipping

    The Port of Gothenburg and the Port of Rotterdam have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the realization of a Green Corridor to support sustainable shipping between the two ports. The MoU – signed in the presence of their majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden and King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands – will also further strengthen the ports ongoi

  • The Port of Gothenburg is the only port in Sweden that can receive the world’s largest vessels. At present they are unable to do so fully loaded. Therefore, the fairway needs to be deepened and quays strengthened.

    Decision for a deeper fairway in the Port of Gothenburg

    The Land and Environmental Court granted a permit for deepening and widening the fairway, strengthening the quay and the disposal of dredge spoil in a designated location at sea. The decision will allow the Skandia Gateway project’s dock reinforcement work to start according to schedule.

    Local storage aims to relieve the load on the Port of Gothenburg and cut emissions

    At the Port of Gothenburg, collaboration is now being intensified with the port’s rail connected inland terminals. By offering local intermediate storage of import containers at inland terminals all over Sweden, the intention is to make additional optimisation possible in customers’ logistical solutions.

  • The shipping line network is growing at the Port of Gothenburg. One of the latest additions is a direct route offered by the shipping company MSC to and from the USA, which is a contributory factor behind the Port’s growth in volume.

    Freight volumes continue to increase in the Port of Gothenburg

    The Port of Gothenburg is growing in terms of volumes and enhancing its position as the guarantor of Swedish industry’s access to the world at large – this is reflected in the Port’s reported volumes for the first half of 2022. And despite warnings of an imminent recession, Elvir Dzanic, CEO of the Gothenburg Port Authority, believes there will be continued growth for the industrial sector.

    Sailing camp for future employees

    This year, another 27 young people are offered to sail this summer, of which 4 will be in a week-long sailing camp on Æolusön. In addition, 10 young people will have opportunities for summer jobs. The Port of gothenburg aim to get more young people interested in boating, shipping and the harbor.

    New rail shuttle connects the Port of Gothenburg with Northern Sweden

    Another freight train shuttle service is now starting between the North of Sweden and the Port of Gothenburg. The new shuttle is the latest in a series of rail shuttles connecting the growing industry in the north with markets on other continents via the Port of Gothenburg's shipping line network. The first train from Umeå arrives in Gothenburg on Sunday 29 May.

    The Port of Gothenburg is ready for methanol bunkering ship-to-ship

    The Gothenburg Port Authority is today publishing general methanol operating regulations for ship-to-ship bunkering. The port is also making arrangements to setup a value chain with the ambition to become the primary bunkering hub for renewable methanol in Northern Europe.

    International exchange program launched at the Port of Gothenburg

    The first round of the new Gothenburg Port Authority exchange program is just concluded as two employees just returned from the Port of Hamburg to gather their impressions. ”I hope and believe that an opportunity like this will make us an even more attractive employer,” said Susanne Utbult, Head of Human Resources at the Gothenburg Port Authority.
