Press release -

Improved port access following opening of Halvors Länk interchange

Today we will see the opening of the Halvors Länk interchange. The new road system will allow freight traffic on the Hisingsleden highway bound for the Port of Gothenburg to be separated from traffic heading for the Älvsborg Bridge, offering improved access and reduced transport times.

Freight traffic to the Port of Gothenburg approaching from the north currently passes via the Vädermotet junction. The new cross-link between the Ytterhamnsmotet junction on highway 155 and the Hisingsleden highway will ease the pressure of heavy traffic at Vädermotet. This will ultimately result in freight traffic being redirected from the E6 Lundbyleden highway to the Hisingsleden highway.

“Halvors Länk will improve the road system linking the Port of Gothenburg to the large industrial and logistics parks in the western part of Hisingen. We now have a direct route from Hisingsleden, making the port more accessible,” said Jacob Minnhagen, Senior Manager Market Development at the Gothenburg Port Authority.

The Swedish Transport Administration began work on the 1.3 km cross-link route at the end of 2019 and it will be officially opened on Friday 17 December – four months ahead of schedule. The Vikansmotet junction will be linked to Halvors Länk in spring 2022 and as a result the logistics centre currently being built by the Gothenburg Port Authority and Castellum at Halvorsäng will be connected directly to the national road network.

“Halvorsäng is located immediately north of the port terminals beside the Hisingsleden highway, making it an ideal location for handling incoming freight, and for onward transport to towns and cities throughout Sweden and Scandinavia,” said Jacob Minnhagen.

Fact file: Redevelopment of the Hisingsleden highway

Around 24,000 vehicles use the Hisingsleden highway each day, including high-volume freight traffic between the port and the large industrial facilities in the western part of Hisingen. In an effort to improve road safety and increase freight transport capacity, the Swedish Transport Administration is in the process of redeveloping the southern part of Hisingsleden, of which Halvors Länk is the first of four phases. Work will continue with the broadening of the existing carriageway and the construction of four grade-separated junctions.
