Swedish logistics success on show at Transport Logistics in Munich
Is it possible for a port to increase volumes and at the same time reduce its climate impact? The answer is yes if you invest heavily in increasing the proportion of rail transport to and from the port. The Port of Gothenburg is planning to present the Railport Scandinavia system at Transport Logistics in Munich – a system that accounts for 50 per cent of the port's land transport.
"With Railport Scandinavia, we can combine higher volumes at the port with reduced emissions. As a port, it is important for us to grow sustainably and at the same time create added value for our customers," states Claes Sundmark, Vice President Sales, Port of Gothenburg.
The largest port in Scandinavia is very much on track. Thanks to Railport Scandinavia, large volumes of freight can reach the port's customers quickly and efficiently.
When the project started, there were two rail shuttles each day transporting freight to and from the port. Today, there are 25 shuttles with daily services to 22 inland terminals throughout Sweden and Norway. Last year, 411,000 containers (TEU) were transported to and from the port by rail. Each year, some 61,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide are saved, equivalent to emissions from 23,000 cars.
Railport Scandinavia launches new website
June 4th, Railport Scandinavia, are launching a new website www.railportscandinavia.com. The website presents all the 22 terminals in the system. The site is designed to meet customers’ expectations and their need for information.
“The new website will be a digital hub för the railway customers. It will be easy to find and to compare terminals to each other,” states Claes Sundmark.

Transport Logistics is one of the world's largest transport and logistics fairs.
The fair will take place on June 4-7. The Port of Gothenburg is exhibiting
together with other partners in Railport Scandinavia (Älvsborg Roro, APM
Terminals Gothenburg, Logent, Falköping, Örebro, Katrineholm, Eskilstuna,
Jernhusen and the Swedish Transport Administration).
You can find us in Hall B3, Stand 426. Swedish delicacies will be served on the stand each day from 2 pm. On June 6, we will be celebrating the Swedish National Day and a range of surprises awaits you at the stand.
