Due to the increased need for sustainable and more efficient transportation with larger networks, higher capacity and quicker lead times, Containerships has chosen to start its own shuttle service between the Port of Helsingborg and Mälardalen, with Green Cargo operating the trains.

ScandFibre Logistics (SFL) and Green Cargo renew their partnership in the form of a comprehensive Scandinavian rail freight logistics solution. Green Cargo won SFL’s procurement due to its competitive offering in the form of a sustainable freight solution with flexible volumes and the possibility of adding more direct trains together with faster lead times.
The successful partnership between Green Cargo and Vallviks Bruk for shipping roundwood from Malungsfors in the municipality of Malung-Sälen to the pulp mill in Vallvik has resulted in an extension of the current agreement. The partnership began in 2018 with rail-freight services from Mora and continued in 2019 from the newly opened timber terminal in Malungsfors.

Green Cargo will deploy the first two next-generation freight locomotives in Norway. The new Eurodual locomotives are more robust, better adapted to the harsh Norwegian landscape and will reduce delays across the railway network. The new locomotive means that a freight train can transport the equivalent of 30 trucks. Norway is the first country in the Nordics to use this new locomotive.
The rail freight sector has made tremendous efforts to keep Europe’s countries running, supporting both industry and society throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Our employees were considered frontliners in the task to supply hospitals with masks, hydro-alcoholic solution, energy to heat medical buildings and maintain continuous supplies of goods like food and beverages in stores.
Four satisfied business partners are once again renewing their agreement to continue the sustainable freight transportation of wood chips and pulpwood from Norway to Sweden. The new three-year agreement between BillerudKorsnäs, Moelven, Grenland Rail and Green Cargo starts this December.
Despite the prevailing situation with COVID-19 and reduced demand in many segments, Holmen’s round timber customers need to transport raw materials, with a resulting increase in Holmen’s need for more freight transportation. Green Cargo has been able to meet Holmen’s requirements for extra trains thanks to its customer adaptability and solution-oriented approach.
The first scheduled freight train is now in service on the industrial track to the new freight port, Stockholm Norvik Port. Ports of Stockholm built the railway line, which will enable more sustainable transportation and expands the different transportation alternatives to and from the port.
Over the Easter weekend the industrial branch line that Ports of Stockholm has built to Stockholm Norvik Port was connected to the railway network and electrified. This creates a direct railway link to and from the port on the Green Cargo intermodal network for national and international transport.
ICA will use the Volvo Group’s freight train to transport goods. Normally, south-bound trains operated by Green Cargo transport Volvo’s freight from Sweden to the factory in the Belgian city of Gent. For the last six years, the Swedish logistics company Scanlog has used north-bound trains to transport cargo such as food for ICA, the train has not run since Volvo’s truck factory in Gent closed.
Close collaboration and high quality were two important parameters leading to an extended agreement and the continued collaboration between Green Cargo and St1 for two more years. On 4 November 2020, Green Cargo will have transported goods for St1 for 25 years – a major win for the environment as well as for safer roads.
In the beginning of March, the first shuttle for Årsta left from Älmhult and Torsvik under the new contract with IKEA Transport & Logistics Services. The shuttle runs six days per week and supplies goods to department stores and warehouses in the greater Stockholm and Uppsala areas.
Volvo Cars’ sustainability day in Gothenburg on Thursday concluded with awarding the international Volvo Cars Quality of Excellence prize. Several hundred participants from all over the world were there, including Marcus Wiklund and Clas Svensson from Green Cargo. Along with the other nominated suppliers, Green Cargo had the honor of accepting the Volvo Cars prize.
The Government has resolved to create a national freight transport advisory council, tasked with contributing to efforts to promote efficient, high capacity and sustainable freight transportation, and with implementing the freight transport strategy. Green Cargo’s Chairman Jan Sundling has been asked to join the council.
