Havila Voyages extends Geirangerfjord season for 2025

Havila Voyages has announced that from 2025 it is extending its season sailing into the UNESCO World Heritage Geirangerford to include April and May. The cruise line currently operates into the world famous fjord during the Summer months, from June to August.

From April, passengers will experience spring in the Geirangerfjord on the coastal route’s most environmentally friendly ships, sailing both silently and emission free, for a truly spectacular experience.

"We want to offer our guests even more opportunities to visit the Geirangerfjord in the most unique way possible. We are the only company meeting the Norwegian government's requirements for zero emission sailings in our UNESCO world heritage fjords and promise an emission-free and silent journey into the Geirangerfjord even in spring," says CEO Bent Martini of Havila Voyages.

"Now, everyone travelling with us has the chance to witness the spring blossoming in one of the world's most renowned fjords. For many, the Geirangerfjord is a key reason to choose the coastal route, and we are pleased to offer more people the opportunity to experience the spectacular nature of this area."

The requirements for zero emissions are scheduled to come into force in 2026. Havila Voyages is the only company to have successfully met these requirements having first sailed Havila Castor into the fjord on battery power in June 2022.

"Next year marks just one year until the new requirements are put into effect. There have been discussions and lobbying efforts from parties unable to meet these requirements to push back the implementation date. We hope Norwegian authorities remain committed and do not relent now. It would be a scandal for Norway's efforts towards a green transition," Martini concludes.

The first voyage in 2025 will be onboard the coastal cruise ship Havila Castor which will enter the fjord on Tuesday, April 1st.

Prices for the eleven-night round voyage (Bergen/Kirkenes/Bergen), which departs Bergen on 31 March 2025 start from £1,616 per person based on two sharing on full board basis.

The Havila Voyages is a Norwegian shipping company that sails the classic coastal voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes with the Norwegian coast's most environmentally friendly ships.

The four new ships are loaded with the world's largest battery pack, and can sail for four hours without noise or emissions through vulnerable fjords. The batteries are charged with clean hydropower at shore, and when the batteries are low we switch to natural gas which cuts CO2 by around 25 %.

The hull is specially designed for maximum energy efficiency, and excess heat from cooling water and sea used for heating on board. On the menu are locally made dishes from local producers, and all unnecessary plastic is avoided. We are already exceeding the authorities' requirements for cutting emission, and we have set sail with zero emissions as the future target.

The Havila Voyages is part of the Havila Group that dates back to the 1950s. It all started when the founder, Per Sævik, bought his first fishing boat in his teens. From fishing and herring fishing, Havila is now a group operating in shipping technology, offshore, transport and tourism.
