Havila Voyages featured in TIME's annual list of World's Greatest Places 2024

Fosnavåg, Norway– July 25, 2024 Havila Voyages’ coastal cruise ships Havila Pollux and Havila Polaris have been featured as some of the exciting new places in the just revealed TIME annual list of the World’s Greatest Places, which highlights 100 extraordinary destinations to visit and stay. To compile this list, TIME solicits nominations of places – including hotels, cruises, restaurants, attractions, museums, parks, and more—from its international network of correspondents and contributors, as well as via an application process, with an eye toward those offering new and exciting experiences.

“It is a true honor to be recognized by such a prestigious publication and exclusive ‘best of’ list,” said Bent Martini, CEO of Havila Voyages. “Our team works hard to create a one-of-a-kind dynamic blend of culinary, immersive, and rich in Nordic culture experiences that weaves eco-forward technology throughout. This acknowledgment could not have been achieved without our staff’s dedication to exceeding expectations in addition to our tour operator partners who have held the same goals to provide travelers with a sustainable way to explore our Norwegian coastline.”

Debuted as the third and fourth in the Havila Voyages fleet of now four identical ships, Havila Pollux and Havila Polaris premiered in August 2023. The two new ships have provided travelers additional options to explore, learn about, and enjoy Norway in a sustainably forward way.

Citing Havila Voyage’s forward-thinking technology and design, TIME notes the coastal cruise line “is breaking the mold on sustainable ship technology with its fleet of four plug-in hybrid cruise ships, including the 2023-debuted Havila Polaris and Havila Pollux.” The reputable outlet goes on to describe the unique Norwegian culinary and experiences offered by the ships along with Havila Voyages’ future-facing mindset with “plans for carbon neutral operations by 2028 and embracing emission-free fuel alternatives like hydrogen by 2030.”

The annual list of TIME’s Greatest Places is a coveted selection of new and exciting travel destinations, cruises, hotels, and more who have met the reputable publication’s qualifications. Including the full list of this year’s World’s Greatest Places: time.com/worldsgreatestplaces.

Havila Voyages is a Norwegian shipping company that sails the classic coastal voyage between Bergen and Kirkenes with the Norwegian coast's most environmentally friendly ships.

The four new ships are loaded with one the world's largest battery pack ever installed on passenger ships and can sail for up to four hours without noise or emissions through vulnerable areas. The batteries are charged with clean hydropower at shore, and when the batteries are low we switch to natural gas which cuts CO2 by around 35 %.

The hull is specially designed for maximum energy efficiency, and excess heat from cooling water and sea used for heating on board. On the menu are locally made dishes from local producers, and all unnecessary plastic is avoided. We are already exceeding the authorities' requirements for cutting emission, and we have set sail with zero emissions as the future target.

Havila Voyages is part of the Havila Group that dates back to the 1950s. It all started when the founder, Per Sævik, bought his first fishing boat in his teens. From fishing and herring fishing, Havila is now a group operating in shipping technology, offshore, transport and tourism.
