First podium finish in the Slalom this season for Alexis Pinturault

Alexis Pinturault is back on the podium in the Slalom as well. Following his Giant Slalom fest in Adelboden last weekend, the French athlete finished third in the Slalom in Flachau on Sunday to bag his first podium finish in this discipline this season.

"I'm very pleased. Winter didn't get off to such an easy start. We were not able to get much Slalom practice done because of the restrictions. We have worked hard during training and now it's going great. I'm looking forward to the races in Schladming and Chamonix," said Alexis Pinturault at the finish. Leading the overall ranking, the HEAD World Cup Rebel has now notched up 778 points.

"It does us all a lot of good to snatch a podium finish with a small Slalom team," emphasised HEAD Racing Director Rainer Salzgeber. "Alexis' service man, Guntram Mathis, did a superb job and has earned a doctorate for his work. Several optimisations have been made, and when you see how things have been going since Adelboden, they seem to be paying dividends. It is a great pity that Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was injured. Especially when you appreciate the competitiveness. I wish him all the best and hope that he returns to racing as soon as possible. It's important that Alexis is already ahead in the overall World Cup ranking because you never know how long this season will last."

Best results this season for Johannes Strolz and Albert Popov

Johannes Strolz finished in 14th place. It was the best result this season for the Austrian athlete. Albert Popov from Bulgaria also achieved his best result of the season finishing in 15th place. Timon Haugan from Norway finished in 24th place.

Alexis Pinturault already demonstrated on Saturday during the first Slalom event in Flachau that he is on top form again in this discipline as well, by skiing the fourth-fastest time on the second run. Overall, the 29-year-old finished in ninth place on Saturday. Albert Popov finished in 16th place, and Timon Haugan finished 23rd.

Lara Gut-Behrami just misses a podium finish

For the women athletes, there were two Giant Slaloms on the agenda in Kranjska Gora this weekend. On Sunday Lara Gut-Behrami just missed a place on the podium in fourth place. For the Swiss athlete this was the best result in this discipline this season. The 29-year-old was already in the top ten on Saturday, finishing in eighth place. Her compatriot Wendy Holdener finished eighth on Sunday with the fifth-fastest time on the second run.
